Kondaikadalai Kuzhambu – கொண்டக்கடலை குழம்பு


Ingredients

  • Big white Chana – 250g
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Small Onions – 10
  • Tomato – 2
  • Green chillies – 5
  • Coconut – 1/2
  • Tamarind – 1 lemon size
  • Coriander seeds powder – 1 tbsp
  • Red Chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Garlic cloves – 10
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – Required
  • Oil – Required
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Coriander leaves – Few

How to Prepare

Total Preparation Time: 20-30 minutes

  1. Wash and soak chana in water for 8 hours and keep aside
  2. Add 100ml water and dissolve the tamarind ball using your hand, filter it, save the syrup and keep aside
  3. Chop onions, chop garlic cloves, chop tomato, grind coconut like a paste and keep aside
  4. Take a pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds
  5. Once it crackle, add urad dal, curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes
  6. Then add onion and garlic saute it for 3 minutes till it become translucent
  7. Add tomato and salt and saute it for 10 minutes
  8. Then add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and saute it till the raw smell goes off
  9. Then add chana and tamarind juice mix it well for 2 minutes
  10. Then add grinned curry leaves paste and salt and saute it for 2 minutes
  11. Close the lid and allow them to boil for 3 minutes
  12. Then Open the lid and add grinned coconut and stir it and cook for another 3 minutes
  13. After that turn off the flame and finally garnish with coriander leaves
  14. Now the tasty Kondaikadalai kulambu is ready for serve
